John Howe was born in 1957 in Vancouver and grew up in British Columbia. He studied at the Ecoles des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg and now works as a freelance illustrator in Switzerland, where he lives with his wife (also an illustrator) and son.
A renowned fantasy artist, John worked alongside Alan Lee as a concept artist on Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, The Lord of the Rings. John has illustrated many J. R. R. Tolkien titles, calendars and board games.
His beautiful watercolour illustrations have also featured on the covers of many fantasy novels including Robin Hobb’s, Farseer, Liveship Traders and Tawny Man trilogies.
