Mark graduated from Kingston in 1988 and has worked as a children’s book illustrator ever since.
His well-known picture book The Egg, which he wrote and illustrated, is the story of George, a young boy who raised his very own dragon. As a result of its popularity it was followed by, The
Great Dragon Rescue and The Dragon Snatcher. His book The Sandcastle was short listed for the Children’s Book Award and Long Listed for The Kate Greenaway award in 2002.
Other titles include Hieronymus Betts and his Unusual Pets, Cleopatra (a charming re-telling of Cleopatra’s life through the eyes of her young handmaiden) the fiction cover for The
Spellbound Hotel (Piccadilly Press) and The Food Chain, a picture book for Frances Lincoln. Shortlisted for an English Association Book Award (Best Children’s Illustrated Books 2009 category).
